Resolved Question

Arte there any insurance companies that do students contents insurance for joint holders?

I'm moving into a house with a few other full time students. We are looking to have a joint policy for contents insurance becasue we are thinking ti will be cheaper than getting individual insurance.
I've founf that endsleigh do not offer a joint policy but was wonderign whether there are any oother student insurance companies that offer joint policies for shared accomodation?

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

None that I am aware of. Since none of you are related it could get complicated at time of claim; or even to administer the policy.

It should not be too expensive for each of you to get a policy. Start with your parents home insurer.

What is the punishment for no licience and no insurance in UK?

Resolved Question

What is the punishment for no licience and no insurance in UK?

arested by police under alleged driving dangerously with no licience or insurance. Have to appear in Juvinile Court. No previous convictions. Good track record. But above all I was NOT driving. There were 3 of us in the car. The owner of the car was driving but fled at scene. What will happen as outcome?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

just plead NOT guilty, despite what they might tell you it IS up to them to prove who was driving, and if it wasn't you you shouldn't have much problem

even if you did it, the most likely outcome these days in the UK would be a fine and points on your license (I know you don't have one, but they'll stick points on it anyway)

  • 1) If you were not driving then did you tell the Police that on interview?

    2) Did you tell the Police who was driving?

    3) If the answer to the above is yes, then why are you going to Court? After all the Police want to prosecute the driver not some innocent passenger.

    4) The Police need evidence to show you were the driver. Contrary to all the anti-Police trolls on here I can tell you that the Police don't just charge people for the hell of it. What is it you have forgotten to tell us?

    5) If you are genuinely totally innocent then you need to plead not guilty, stand in Court and say that under oath that you were not the driver and tell the Court who was the driver.

    6) Don't give me any cr@p about grassing on a mate. If your mate was a true mate they would not have run off and left you to carry the can!
Even if he ran off, not realising he was dropping you in it then he has now had time to think things over. he now knows that he has dropped you it it. If he were a true friend then he would have the bottle to come forward and admit being the driver. He has had time to do the right thing by his mate!

    7) What will happen. If you get convicted you will be banned from driving, so you will not be able to get a licence as soon as you would otherwise be able to. You will get a heavy fine. You will get points when you do eventually get a licence. You will have previous convictions and can't claim to have a clean track record ever again.

You are at a cross roads in your life. One route takes you down the road of becoming a criminal and a loser.
The other road takes you down the road of honesty, integrity and becoming and achiever instead of a loser.
    Decision time!

Whatever the true story is, you need to grow up and tell the truth to the Court.
  • If you are under 18 and were not driving you may get off with a verbal cautioning depending on your clean past record. Write a letter of apology to the court (make sure handwriting and spelling are good). You could get an ASBO or be tagged, state that you are working (if you are, if not say nout) and things should go OK for you. Wear clean smart clothes to court. Courts are reluctant to give criminal records to first time offenders. Good Luck.
  • Get ready to spend a few months in a very small cell with a very fat and ugly woman who will call you her baby and keep you warm at night.

I am feed up with people getting into cars and driving around like fools then coming on here and crying about it when they get busted.

If you had killed a child while driving around whilst having fun, would they get a chance to come on here and say how unfair life is..??

    Grow up.!!

You did the crime now do the time.!!
  • Car will be crushed. If driver not identified, you could theoretically be charged with obstruction, but not likely, as police should be able to find registered owner, who HAS to identify driver or be charged himself.
  • It is normally fined, plus the cost of the months of road tax you did not pay, plus you will have to pay next years road tax and years insurance, to get back on the road.

  • 40 lashes with the Cat O' 9 tails or no mobile phone for a month. With, possibly running lessons for you, so next time you can get away quicker
  • He will lose his license for 1-3 years. and good. you should all get not much - he was driving. his fault. Just make sure you sound sorry.
  • 3 months sentence, this happened to my mate christmas time. you be out in around 6 weeks though.

House insurance for a laptop?

Resolved Question

House insurance for a laptop?

Could I make a claim for a laptop that suffered a short circuit?
I got it for £379.99 if that helps...

Additional Details

The warranty has just expired, but few people had recommended me to make a house insurance claim on it, as they assured it would be covered. But I'm not sure.

And the Laptop will not turn on at all. Regardless if battery is out and power cord kept in. There's a flashing green light on the AC brick though.
I think my motherboard is fried.

Do you have contents accidental damage?

I don't think a short circuit covers accidental damage.

  • I claimed on our house insurance for a lap top that had a similar problem, it smelt funny when turned on and then wouldn't turn on at all, when i took it to PC World they said it would cost more to repair than replace and they said the house contents would cover it.
I went out purchased a new lap top kept the receipt and then phoned the insurance company and said one of the kids had spilt orange juice on it and now it wont work, it was an accident that couldnt be helped so they agreed and paid out - minus the £60 excess on the insurance and they sent it straight to my bank 3 days later!
They never even asked to see the receipt, if you just say youve had it looked at and they said it would cost more to fix and tell this all to the insurance company they will happily pay, unless you were trying to claim for a new lap top that cost a FORTUNE, as they tell you to buy like for like, so something of a similar price and has the same memory/functions as the last one, as i had to explain this as part of the questions. I got £400 back so i was happy, see what they say they are usually really helpful and remember this happens all the time so they are well used to it!
    Good luck!

  • ......."short circuit" is not a covered cause of loss.

You can only make a claim if the reason the laptop is damaged is due to a "covered cause of loss".

  • check you policy but I think it would not cover this sort of thing. I would check to see if it is in warranty first.

Only thing I can suggest is to post what IS wrong with it and see if anybody knows how to fix it.

  • No. Mechanical (or electrical) breakdown is never covered under any personal property policy.

  • Drop it on the floor instead - accidentally of course

Funeral Plan - Help needed!!?

Resolved Question

Funeral Plan - Help needed!!?

I want to arrange a funeral plan, im only 26 - i know!!!! But i dont want to leave my family any financial burden or any hassle to sort etc, so ive sorted myself health and life insurance and i am now wanting to sort a funeral plan....but i dont think they will allow me to apply? Ive had trouble with the life insurance as they only cover for 40yrs, which makes me 66, so ill have to sort extensions etc nearer the time...what im asking, is if there is anyone else of a similar young age who wants to pre plan for the future and how you have gotten on arranging a funeral plan etc, and how do you arrange what you want for your funeral etc?
Thanks! x

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

All such things can be included in your Will. You can include whether you want to be buried or cremated, you can also include an order of Service etc. No matter what age you are you can make a will. You may not have loads of money to leave but you can amend a will any time you like. Good idea to have some life insurance or critical illness insurance. Yes you are young, but it never to early to make some decisions, although don't dwell on such things.

  • I don't understand why you're so concerned with your funeral at age 26 - but you can purchase a prepaid funeral plan if you so desire. Keep in mind that when that time comes (50+ years from now), your life situation and location may be completely different.

  • Suggest you contact Cooperative Funeral Care. To my knowledge they have no age limits on drawing up plans.

  • cant you include all of this in your will?

  • You are far better off buying an all-purpose term life insurance policy, naming a trusted family member as the executrix of your estate, and writing a will designating that the proceeds of your life insurance be used to pay for your funeral. At 26, term life insurance is readily available and easily affordable. Locking into specific funeral plans now might not make any sense 50+ years from now when you pass. With enough insurance, your heirs and family can use that money to pay cash for your funeral.

BTW If you only have a small amount of money to use on insurance, you are much better off buying short term disability insurance. People between age 30 - 60 have a one-third chance of suffering a disabling accident or injury that will prvent them from working and earning money for more than six weeks. If your budget would suffer greatly if, say you broke your leg and had to take off work without pay for two months, then you are better off buying disability insurance instead of life insurance.

Is land of leather insurance on suites still usable?

Resolved Question

Is land of leather insurance on suites still usable?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

If you bought a warranty with your suite the insurance is not with Land of Leather but with the warranty company (Guardsman or Homeserve probably). The warranty will still be valid even if Land of Leather are not trading.

Hope this helps

I want to get mortgage protection in case I lose my job?

Resolved Question

I want to get mortgage protection in case I lose my job?

Can anyone reccommend a good mortgage protection company?
I want this in case I am made redundant.

Thanks in advance :)

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

Sorry, Mortgage Insurance only pays lender if you, the buyer default on the loan. If you need Insurance to pay when you lose your job or get into an accident - that's a different kind of insurance. Please consult with your insurance agent for a product that will replace your salary if your laid off.

  • Good luck, I hope you find it. I was let go in Jan after 39 yrs with a company. There are a lot of companys offering all kinds of plans out there but the thing is you have to be close to, Ifnot going through forecloser to get any kind of help. I can not get any because I am not late with payments or going through foreclosure. It just takes every penny I get from unemployment to make my house payment. I hope you find some thing because eating one time a day is getting old. Good luck to you. Also depending on your age I am finding out that no one wants an old man working for them.
