Travel insurance company being difficult re payment for operation whilst son's girlfriend on holiday in Mexico?

Resolved Question

Travel insurance company being difficult re payment for operation whilst son's girlfriend on holiday in Mexico?

My son's girlfriend had an op on a broken wrist when they were on holiday in Mexico in September costing £4000. Despite giving all relevant info required by insurance company, they are dragging their heels over payment and have been very unhelpful during phone calls. She has contacted the Insurance Omsbudsman and they have contacted them. A week ago the insurance company said a cheque was in the post, but refused to say for how much. To date it hasn't arrived. Meanwhile, interest continues to accrue on the credit card used to pay the fee. What next please?

If you bought your plan through a broker, then you should call the broker. Brokers are free and it's times like these where they can be of great use. If you didn't buy through a broker then now you know.

  • above answers are right but call again the same company ask to speek to the claim department and ask to speak to a manager or supervisor if the person talking to you is not being helpful.

it is their duty to let you know exactly how much they are sending money and what's the status. if a check is in the mail they will tell you how much, unless you are not the policy holder they can not discuss the claim with you.

I think you need to clear out the matter with your son and girlfriend because they can get any answer they want from the insurance company being the policy holder.

    good luck

  • Send a registered letter to the insurance company head office giving all the details you have about the policy number and claim number. Set out all your costs including interest and the cost of phone calls. Say that if these costs are not reimbursed within 7 days, you will start legal proceedings without further notice and you will also request that their regulator investigates whether their policies are fraudulent.

  • Contact the Ombudsman again. He/she has absolute authority over all insurance companies.
