Will AA home insurance replace my Plasma TV 'New for Old'?

Resolved Question

Will AA home insurance replace my Plasma TV 'New for Old'?

My kids have just thrown a Wii remote through my 42" Samsung Plasma TV. Before paying the £150 excess i wanted to check what TV/Money they would pay out?

New Tele? will it be a Samsung? Cash?
Thanks

check your policy, if it says replacement cost coverage for personal property you will get a brand new TV, if it says actual cash value you will get a TV of similar age/value to the one you have now. And the insurer will want to know the reason why the damage was caused as well.

  • Check your policy details. Do you have accidental damage cover, and does it cover damage caused by children? Check the list of exclusions. If you are covered then you are entitled to "similar type and quality" which does not mean that you can get the latest version of the tv you currently have. Unless the exact same model is still available then you are not guaranteed to get a Samsung - just similar type and quality.
