Contents Insurance!!!?

Resolved Question

Contents Insurance!!!?

I am going to be going to university in a week however the university has only been able to provide me with temporary accomodation for 2-3 weeks in a hotel, after that they are going to give me permanenet accomodation.
I was just wondering is it possible for me to take out contents insurance for just the 3 weeks I am in the hotel, because the university goes that we have to sort it out ourselves.

You take out the policy in your name with one of the specialist companies that insure university students.
The policy is taken out from your home address and is for the address you will be living at.
Quickest and easiest method will be to do it on line but you will need to ring them and explain and they will make up the policy for two addresses. You realistically still need the contents insurance for the uni digs anyway.

My daughter has just finished uni and we had insurance each year for each address to cover all personal possessions.

  • I would call around to the local insurance companies and ask if they have a rider or a policy that you can purchase for the hotel stay. Your home owners policy may extend to the hotel temporarily, if you have home owners insurance. Otherwise renters insurance covers possessions. You may be able to get renters insurance for the dorm at the university or for sure you can get it for off campus housing.

  • In UK Home Insurances are generally annual contracts with a minimum premium of around £50. Not cost effective to offer any lower. Doubt if you'll find a 3 week policy if you're in the UK. If your parents have a policy on their residence, this sometimes gives cover for sons & daughters away at uni.

  • i would also see if the university provides insurance. it would be similar to renters insurance, and you are responsible for that, not the establishment.

  • Contact Endsleigh Insurance, they seem to insure most students and they should be able to help.
