Why do insurance companies not give discounts for flood protetction measures to individual premises?

Resolved Question

Why do insurance companies not give discounts for flood protetction measures to individual premises?

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

Because flood is not covered under a homeowner's policy. The only discounts that can be applied are those that affect the likelihood of a covered claim. These things are taken into consideration on a flood policy, but have no effect on a regular homeowner's.

They may not recognise flood protection measures to individual houses - unless you build a double strength six foot high wall around your property?

  • In the U.S., flood protection is not provided by homeowner's or commercial property policies. It is provided by separate federal flood insurance.
