Can I claim for death under a life insurance policy after a quadruple bypass operation?

Resolved Question

Can I claim for death under a life insurance policy after a quadruple bypass operation?

I have heard that as you technically die during a bypass operation that you can claim for death under a life insurance policy, is this true?

No.

Life insurance is to help your family when you are no longer alive to help support them, not for when your heart stops beating temporarily.

Without a death certificate, no one can collect on life insurance. You only get a death certificate when you are permanently dead.

  • First, you cannot collect. Beneficiaries collect when the insured dies, and a death certificate is issued. No death certificate, no claim possible. Nice try, I like the way you think.

  • Don't be silly. You are only 'briefly dead', and your beneficiaries cannot collect unless you are permanently dead. You are apparently listening to 'old wives' tales' far too often.

  • Only if you aren't revived, and don't come out of the surgery.
