What can i do about it, i have never been sent one

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

National Insurance is dealt by the Dept of Social Security, based in Washington, Tyne and Wear. I would suggest that you get hold of your local office, number in the phone directory, and get advice. You may well need to take along a birth certificate and other ID with you to the office for it to be sorted out.

  • try asking your local jobcenter or careers advicer

Unpaid Maternity Leave and Short term Disability?

Resolved Question

Unpaid Maternity Leave and Short term Disability?

I get 3 months unpaid maternity leave and I filled out what I wanted to have on my med. insurance months ago before I found out I was pregnant. I didnt add the fee for short term or long term disability. Ive heard you could use short term disability for the time you are on unpaid maternity leave. So my question is can I ask to add on the short term disability now or am I pritty much screwd with no ncome for those 3 months? Thanx in advance for your answers

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

Unless there is a qualifying event, and pregnancy is not one, you are not going to be able to add short term disability and get paid. So you either need to start saving money and your sick leave, or not stay off work for 12 weeks. You are can have 12 weeks of unpaid maternity leave that is protected by FMLA, but that is not a monetary benefit, it is job protection for 12 weeks. If your company has open enrollment soon, you can add short term disability, however you should ask your HR department if you have to have short term disability prior to getting pregnant.

  • Some employer's short term disability policies do cover maternity leave. (I cannot state what would be covered on YOUR employer's policy. However, every employer short term disability policy I've ever had covered maternity leave. At least, the first 6 weeks or so...not necessarily the whole 3 months.)

The point is basically moot though, because you're already pregnant. You can't just change the benefits you chose through your employer any time you feel like it. You can find out with your HR/benefits office whether there is an open enrollment coming up, and whether you'd be able to select that coverage to help pay for your maternity leave. BUT...I suspect you're out of luck, and that its too late to do anything about it.

  • Pregnancy is not a illness, nor a disability. So no you can not say for 3 months you have been short term disability.

ISSUES WITH AN HOME INSURANCE CLAIM?

Resolved Question

ISSUES WITH AN HOME INSURANCE CLAIM?

A close family member had his home burgled. Laptops, phones, jewelleries, cds, dvds and more have been taken. Only the main door was damaged, the rest of the house was just messy. Unfortunately the insurance is still processing his claim , almost 12 month now, by writing to them asking them different question as if they were suspicious of fraud. he was away with his family at the time. The main issues is that receipts were never kept as all the product were over 6 months and he did not think that he needed to keep them( not the he was able to get a full refund if anything went wrong after 6 month). Manuals or boxes were not kept for most of the item as he never had to use them or it was not needed, on top of that he does not have much storage at his home. He was quite an electronic/ technology geek so he never had any issues to make things work, but most of the time he would use manuals online if he really needed them. The only proof of ownership he had was pictures which he saved onto his laptop, desktop, cd and phone, which were all stolen during the burglary. The insurance company is acting like they will not pay out if he cannot hand in any kind of proof of ownership, can they do that? please advise.

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

Never kept receipts over 6months as not able to get a full refund - what about the 12 month warranty that would come with the product, this would need proof of purchase i.e a receipt. How did pay for them? If it was by card can get info from card provider that may help. Why would he have photos of his laptop, cds & phone? Many retails would keep records that would help.Mobile Phone - would this not be recorded by the phone provider. To be honest I don't see your family member being successful in the claim. Yes the company can with hold on paying out if you can not provide proof you actually had it, bought legitimately and belong to you. Further you can under European law if an item was faulty at point of sale get a full refund up to 7 years!

  • When it comes to everyday items such as a tv, stereo, etc most insurers will just accept that people generally own these things and will pay out without a fuss. When it is expensive or an unusually large collection of items than the onus is on you to prove that you owned them in the first place.
    0% 0 Votes
  • Photos or video of the items should be an acceptable form of proof in the absence of anything else.
As has been said, these things can take time, and so its always better to provide as much proof as you can to assist any progress of the claim.
    0% 0 Votes
  • I'm afraid that they can do that and often do....that is why it is important to keep receipts and manuals etc etc.....

I'm sorry to say it but, they may drag this out for a long long time...

The only way he can provide any proof is a statement from friends and they may not even accept that.....
    0% 0 Votes
  • So he has no proof that he actually owned these items. Small wonder that the insurer is suspicious. The lesson is that receipts, photo evidence, etc., need to be kept in a separate secure place - like a safe deposit box.
    0% 0 Votes
  • Let me guess...a really inexpensive company?

This is why it's essential to go with financially strong company that collects the PROPER premiums. This way, when you need the insurance, you're not treated like a criminall

  • Theft claims take a long time to settle. Because there is so much fraud people do get investigated. Sorry but bad guys ruin it for the good guys.

And, a claim is much harder to settle without receipts or photos or a list of items taken. That is why people should at least take photos of their home with a video camera if possible or at least some still photos.

The claim rep should be helping your friend. If you think your friend is not getting the help that they need then tell them to contract the Department of Insurance in your state for help.

    Source(s):

    0% 0 Votes
  • On some of the items, laptops, phones etc, did he register them? If so the company would have a record.

The phone company should have his phone records. Has there been any calls made after the break in?

Does other family members have photos? ie; XMAS at the home showing in the background the items in question?

Did he pay by check, credit card or cash for these items? If cash, no proof, but if by check or credit card, maybe able to go back and get copies of the purchases.

If not, most likely they will deny since he will not be able to validate he had prior to the theft.

    good luck

Resolved Question

Why do insurance companies not give discounts for flood protetction measures to individual premises?

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

Because flood is not covered under a homeowner's policy. The only discounts that can be applied are those that affect the likelihood of a covered claim. These things are taken into consideration on a flood policy, but have no effect on a regular homeowner's.

  • As of April this year, the minimum holiday entitlement in the UK is 28 days. That includes bank holidays or days in lieu of bank holidays. (You have no legal right to have a bank holiday - just 28 days over a 12 month period form april to april).
There is no maximum holiday entitlement - employers can offer whatever they want over and above the minimum 28 days.
The entitlement is worked out on a pro-rata basis for people who work less then 5 days a week.

My insurance comp have sold my 'writtain off' land rover? Is this lawful?

Resolved Question

My insurance comp have sold my 'writtain off' land rover? Is this lawful?

I crashed my land rover in 2007 and was told I could not buy the car back and it was a complete write off. I received tons of mail from my old address today and one of them was from the DVLA saying someone (in 2008) is now the registered keeper!! I'm a bit annoyed as I love this car and wanted to repair it but was told that it was a definite write off, and now I discover the company have re-sold it....anyone have idea if this is allowed/lawful?

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

Some insurance companies will not sell back a write-off to the original owner. It should be somewhere in your policy documents or the settlement agreement from the write-off. So, yes, it's probably legal.
67% 2 Votes

There are currently no comments for this question.

Other Answers (2)

  • It depends what category the write off was. If it was A then it should have been crushed, or B then the vehicle should not have been sold on except for parts. Category C or D is repairable, but you should have been given the opportunity to buy back the vehicle. Dig out any paperwork that you have, or contact your insurer, and find out what category it was. Then advise the DVLA if it was A or B. It isn't necessarily the insurer who sold it on - some car wrecking companies can act illegally and sell vehicles on. If it was C or D then you could ask your insurer why you weren't offered a buy-back option, but it won't help you now.
    33% 1 Vote
  • It's legal provided it was a category C or D write (and not A or B) which means it was beyond economical repair but could still be made roadworthy

Can I claim for death under a life insurance policy after a quadruple bypass operation?

Resolved Question

Can I claim for death under a life insurance policy after a quadruple bypass operation?

I have heard that as you technically die during a bypass operation that you can claim for death under a life insurance policy, is this true?

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

No.

Life insurance is to help your family when you are no longer alive to help support them, not for when your heart stops beating temporarily.

Without a death certificate, no one can collect on life insurance. You only get a death certificate when you are permanently dead.

  • The time you spent asking this question, you could have easily received multiple auto insurance quotes.

You can do it online at sites like these
    http://www.geico.com
    http://www.quoteserv.com
    http://www.progressive.com
    http://www.statefarm.com

Or using the yellow pages/Yellow book and finding insurance agents.

The whole idea is to get a broad range of quotes. You're 18, so that's going to be expensive regardless of what city/state you reside in. Is the vehicle yours currently or are you just looking? Have you ever had insurance before? Continually insured for 6 months or longer? Is this vehicle financed?

All of these questions and more factor into your rate. I've found calling a big insurance company like Progressive over the phone was super easy and I could get a quote on a vehicle, even a hypothetical quote, and it was fairly accurate. Keep in mind, though, insurance quotes without a specific VIN # are not binding quotes, so you must own the vehicle, know the VIN # and your name must be on the title.

Do I have to apply or could it still turn up yet?

if you have moved house, that could be your problem, you might not have informed the relevent places that you have moved.

you may have to apply.

the only people who recieve a national insurance card automatically are those who are under 16, live in the UK and for whom Child Benefit is in payment.

Assuming you have Accidental Damage cover Insurers can, at their own option, decide whether to repair, replace or pay cash to indemnify you for your loss.

If you do not have Accidental Damage cover on contents then, sorry, it's not covered.

  • that really depends on your insurance co.

if you can get another computer for say $500 then it's never smart to file a claim for something that low in cost.
also bear in mind you have to pay the deductible, so again that depends on the policy, if the deductible is high like a grand,
you have to pay that before they pay the difference.
a lot of companies take that as a clue to increase your premiums and in some companies you are only allowed so many small claims

you need to ask some questions from you agent before you go any further.

  • some companys have things in place like where i worked... all claims over £500 got a visit, under were done over the phone.
if the computer is old and you have a new for old replacement policy they will replace with a new "entry level" modal which should be an improvement but they will try to fob you off with a lower cash settlement giving you guff about the value, stick to your gaurd, if all fails then take it to the FSA then FOS, it costs the insurance company more to deal with FOS than it would for your claim and you will 99% be paid out

  • yes, they probably will need to see the computer,
as nowadays insurance companies are thorough

I made a claim relating to damaged flooring after my washing machine flooded me twice

The insurance assessor visited, gruelled me, asked many questions, then took photos of the damage
Then I'd two wait for weeks for an answer,as to whether they were going to accept my claim
Then I had to provide 2 quotes for replacement

So, don't expect it to be easy, as they are so conscious of fraud nowadays.
Maybe you'll get on better than I did, because I changed my insurer after that, as I was so disgusted with their attitude

  • They will probably need to inspect the computer to confirm the damage and because most Insurers would check to see if a repair is possible. They may ask you to get quotes for repair or ask an approved repairer or restoration company to take a look at it.

I need more information to be able to answer this question.

Royal Mail has two types of "Signed For Service" to Italy.

"Signed For Airmail" takes around four days after it was sent.

"Signed For Surfacemail" takes around two weeks after it was sent.

  • The best way to find cheap pet insurance is to talk to your Veterinarian.

They know which companies have the best policies.

Also, remember that the cheapest policy is NOT always the one that offers the best value.

So ask around and ask lots of questions before buying a new policy.

WHERE CAN I GET TRAVEL INSURANCE WITHOUT TAKING MEDICAL INSURANCE -I HAVE TOO MANY MEDICAL PROBLEMS?

SORRY CAPS LOCK KEY ON------I'M NOT TOO "AU FAIT" WITH COMPUTING

Should be possible. Most travel insurers would be only too happy to exclude medical insurance. You may have a problem with holiday companies/tour operators though. They may insist you have medical insurance.

  • On a recent trip to Spain we took out travel insurance for my wife who has 5-6 serious medical issues for a cost of about £60

do you really want to be in a foreign country having medical problems with no insurance?

I had a friend who got run over in France - nothing to do with any existing medical issue - his bill was in the thousands

  • there shouldne be a problem with getting standard travel insurance, but if you hav lots of medical problems, can you guarantee your health while away???

is it wise to dump it really, the last thing u would want is to become ill and be refused treatment or have a HUGE bill that u would struggle to pay ??

there are companies who do reasonable insurance for illness cover , dont stick tot he high street ones, shop around. online is a good place to start
